The Power of Belonging
When people believe in you, it's easier to believe in yourself.
When Zaqualle first came to CityLink, he was looking for a fresh start. After being impacted by the judicial system, he was determined to change the direction of his life and build an honest future. His CityLink Service Coordinator, Davone, recognized his interest in automotive work and connected him with the ChangingGears Automotive Technician Training Program.
From day one, Zaqualle stood out. Quiet, humble, and thoughtful, he had a way of sharing wisdom beyond his years. Before long, everyone began calling him "OG."
As he worked through the program, it wasn't just the technical skills that made a difference, it was the people. Instructors, coordinators, and new found mentors encouraged him every step of the way, helping him see a future that felt possible. He expected to be judged by his past, but instead, he found a community that embraced him and believed in who he could become.
That support changed everything.
After graduating from the Automotive Technician Training Program, Zaqualle was hired by Performance Honda, where he continues to grow his skills through suspension training. Soon after, he completed probation, moved into his own apartment, and purchased a reliable vehicle through the ChangingGears Vehicle Purchase Program.
His vehicle celebration was one to remember. Surrounded by the mentors and staff who had encouraged him along the way, people he personally asked to be there, Zaqualle celebrated far more than receiving a set of keys. He was celebrating a future he once couldn't imagine.
Today, the quiet confidence that earned him the nickname "OG" is even more evident. He knows where he's headed, and he's excited to keep learning and growing.
When asked what advice he would give someone considering the program, his answer was simple:
"Stay dedicated and persistent. Have a vision for what your future could be."
