Lakweila's Resilience Shone Through

Making a Difference at Her New Job

Despite the unexpected turn of events, Lakweila's resilience shone through. She was content working hard at her Domino’s job when she got let go. Instead of letting this be a setback, she used it as a launch pad into a better life, inspiring us all with her determination.

This unexpected job change helped Lakweila develop a career mindset. She was eager and excited to learn a new skill to help her move down a better career path.

One of her friends told Lakweila about CityLink, ChangingGears, and the Automotive Technician Training Program. She already had a personal connection with cars, and the FREE four-week program sounded like a great fit. Thinking about her long-term career and goals, she knew automotive work could lead to steady work for the long haul which helped affirm her decision to start this program.

Lakweila was a star student and soaked up every training session with ChangingGears trainer Eric Dallas. “I loved the soft skills training with Pastor Strayhorn and Gregory, who helped with interviewing and landing the job.”

Landing her first job in the automotive industry was quick and Lakweila received job offers immediately. Just a few weeks into her new job, she had another setback. Her car was stolen! Fortunately, she qualified for our Vehicle Purchase Program. Lakweila called ChangingGears immediately to share her situation and asked for help. Because of her perseverance and the community she had built, she could get right back on her feet quickly.

Lakweila's positive outlook is truly inspiring. Now she is back at her new job and with her own private transportation once again. She continues to remind us all that we can do anything we put our minds to, and to always keep going no matter what life throws at us. Her faith and hope in the Lord keep her motivated and help her choose not to dwell on the bad things that happen, uplifting us all with her resilience.
