Ramon’s Career is in High Gear and So are His Goals

Before discovering ChangingGears, Ramon was bouncing between short-term factory jobs that left him feeling stuck. A Cincinnati native and LaSalle High School grad, he was craving something more—a career with purpose, growth, and a future.

That shift started at a CityLink career fair, where he and his mom stopped by the ChangingGears booth. Ramon had always been excited about cars, and the idea of turning that passion into a career caught his attention.

He enrolled in our Automotive Technician Training program and was all in from day one. He thrived with hands-on learning and the chance to build real skills. After graduating, his first job in the field didn’t work out—but he didn’t give up. Just down the road, Joseph Toyota gave him a shot.

A year and a half later, Ramon has earned two promotions. He started as a lube technician, moved up to alignments, and now works in used cars, inspecting all trade-in vehicles.

“Every day is different,” Ramon says. “Each car is like its own puzzle. Some are easy, some are tough—but that makes it fun. The time just flies.”

Ramon’s career is moving fast, and so are his goals. He’s attending classes to begin ASE certification and specialized training. Outside work, he and his brother are rebuilding a car they bought at auction. He’s focused, saving up, and working toward moving into his own place this year.

Reflecting on his journey, Ramon shares this advice for anyone considering a career change:

“You can’t go wrong learning a trade. There will always be a need—especially in the automotive world. Be humble, be ready to learn, and be kind. You never know when you’ll need someone’s help.”

And from his biggest supporter—his mom:

“Sometimes you just gotta throw a dart at the target. Something might stick.”
