What’s Next for Ryan? A Year of Milestones and Momentum
Hard Work, Big Payoff
When Ryan came to CityLink, she knew exactly what she was looking for—a hands-on career that allowed her to work with vehicles, not just drive them. After years behind the wheel as a school bus driver, she was craving something more engaging and sustainable. Living independently in Cincinnati and raising two active boys, Ryan set her sights on something greater—and got to work.
She found her path through the ChangingGears Automotive Technician Training Program, where she stood out for her focus, determination, and unwavering commitment. Her goals were clear: finish the program, launch a stable career, and build financial independence. With the support of the ChangingGears and CityLink staff—and financial coaching from Michelle at Smart Money—Ryan stayed the course and turned her goals into reality.
Exactly one year after graduating, Ryan marked another major milestone: she purchased a vehicle through the ChangingGears Vehicle Purchase Program. With her growing boys involved in football, track, and basketball—and regular trips to Columbus to visit family—her 2003 Camry just wasn’t cutting it anymore.
She ended up purchasing a minivan donated by none other than ChangingGears co-founder Marnie—a gift layered with meaning, heart, and history.
“I was anxiously waiting for the day I got to donate my car! I bought it in 2011 and knew from the beginning I wanted to donate it to a client at ChangingGears eventually. As a co-founder, I couldn’t be happier to help a client using our own van!
We finally donated it this year and I couldn't be more excited that it went to Ryan. She is such a hard worker and a great mom, and I pray the car lasts her a long time and helps her as much as it helped me—with all the carpools and drives to work! So thankful for our amazing detailing volunteers who made it look brand new.”
For Ryan, it was more than just a new car—it was a vote of confidence. It meant freedom, stability, and the ability to show up for her kids and her career without relying on borrowed rides.
Today, Ryan is working at AAA as a Service Advisor, currently in a one-year mentorship program on track to become an Assistant Manager. She’s thriving—not just as a professional, but as a provider, role model, and community ambassador. “I’ve never been late to work,” she says with a smile, a quiet nod to how far she’s come.
Her advice? “Don’t just chase money—pursue something you actually care about. Give yourself something to enjoy and be proud of.”
She continues to share her story, spreading the word about ChangingGears and CityLink—grateful for the journey, and even more excited about what’s still ahead.
